One of our favourite churches is the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona. It is located in the district of La Ribera, in the middle of Barcelona and has a gothic Catalan style, with high ceilings and narrow stain-glass windows. It is famous for being featured in various novels, such as Thesaurus Ombres a Barcelona, by Africa Ragel.

Castles

Get informed about legal procedures

If you are looking to get married in Spain, there are certain legal requirements that you must take into consideration: firstly, one of you must have been a resident of Spain for a minimum of 2 years, and secondly you must be over the age of 18 and unrelated. Are any legal documents required? Yes, here is a list:

Birth certificate, officially translated into Spanish by a translator who has been approved, and with an apostilla stamp
If it is not your first marriage, you need to provide either a divorce certificate or a certificate of death of your previous partner
Passports of bride and groom
Certificate of No Impediment to marriage
If you are marrying in a church, permission will need to be granted from the Bishop.

If you want to get married in Spain, but neither of you have lived in Spain for 2 years, consider Gibraltar! It has all of the advantages of Spain but without that requirement.

Please note that these documents are likely to require translation and allow plenty of time (2 months at an absolute minimum!) to organise the legal paperwork to ensure no last-minute panicking.

A Wedding in the Elegant Palace of Aldovea

The Palace of Aldovea is one of the most spectacular places to celebrate a wedding in Spain because it’s a classic and it’s full of history. In this article, we’re going to show you one of the projects we’re working on this season, which we hope will inspire those of you who are planning a wedding for next year.

For this wedding in the Palace of Aldovea, the bride wore a Jesús Peiró dress, a brand which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in bridal fashion in 2018. Everyone thought the bride looked beautiful in her chosen design, which was made with an incredible lace. Her loose, wavy hair gave her look an added touch of elegance. Despite the palace’s traditional style, the couple did not have to follow the trend with traditional accessories. This bride broke traditions with a larger than usual bouquet, made up of wild flowers and plants in white and green tones, and touches of fruit such as apples, which brought life, freshness and originality to the bouquet!

The groom opted for a simple and classic dark blue suit with a plain white shirt; an ideal outfit for this special moment.

For the ceremony, the choice of bow was determined by the bride’s bouquet. It featured an irregular arch formed by flowers and fresh plants that brought an element of simplicity and harmony to the room. The beautiful castle, the bride and groom, and the decoration all blended perfectly.

This palace is a very special place for any couple to feel comfortably enclosed in their own walls and gardens. Celebrating a wedding in the Palace of Aldovea goes hand in hand with success, thanks to its unique space which allows for beautiful decoration, personal essence and corners full of magic. Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting stages of your life. You’re going to marry the person of your dreams, what could be better? However, the thought of this planning can be overwhelming for some people. This is where a wedding planning checklist can come in handy. It will organise you and make sure you won’t forget anything!

To help you, we have put together some important things to write on your checklist. We’ll start with things to do first and finish with last minute details. Let’s go!

1. Budget

First thing’s first, you need to plan how much you want to spend on your wedding. Then you need to elaborate your budget: what do you want to make a priority? On which parts do you want to allocate the most money? Once you have a budget, you can start looking at venues, decorations and vendors to fit your price limits.

2. Guests

Now you know how much you want to spend, you can choose your guests accordingly. Your budget may not allow for a huge list of guests, so you’ll need to decide who you want there the most. It is often the case that more guests get invited for the reception after the dinner, so you can involve more people at the wedding party.

3. Wedding planner

A wedding planner will be like your fairy godmother during the planning. She will take away your stress and will know all the best venues and vendors to make your day successful. Having a wedding planner is especially beneficial if you have a busy schedule outside of wedding planning. You can carry on with normal life knowing everything to do with your wedding is being taken care of.

4. Venue

Once you have your guest list, you can start the search for your ideal venue which has capacity for all guests. Look for somewhere that suits your style. It could also be a good idea from a financial and convenience point of view to hire a venue in which you can host each part of your wedding. As a result, you don’t have to think about guest transportation during the day, nor guest accommodation.

5. Theme & decor

Now you have your venue, you can decide on how you want it to be styled! This is one of the most fun parts. What colour scheme do you want? Do you want a particular theme that means something to you as a couple? Flowers? Arches? The list is endless! Pinterest is amazing for inspiration.

6. Vendors

To make your decor dreams come true, start thinking about hiring your florists and other decoration suppliers. Your wedding planner will know the best vendors to suit your style. Other vendors to hire include caterers, entertainers (such as a live music group or DJ), and a photographer/videographer.

7. Save-the-Date cards and invitations

Design your save-the-date cards and invitations to suit the style of your wedding. Include an RSVP and make sure you set a date you want your guests to confirm by.

8. Outfits

Start looking at potential wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses to allow for fittings. Buying a wedding dress is a beautiful moment, we hope it’ll be a memory you can treasure forever. Also look for outfits for the groom and groomsmen. It is a nice touch to incorporate a similar colour scheme to the bridesmaids’ and groomsmens’ outfits. For example, their ties could match the colour of their dresses.

9. Officiant

If you have opted for a non-religious ceremony, hiring an officiant is the next step. Nowadays, it is becoming common for couples to choose friends or family members to do this. More traditionally, there are professionals who carry out the ceremony.

10. Transportation

If your guests need a way of getting from A to B on your wedding day, it is time to start thinking about hiring transportation. There are so many options of transport: cars, coaches, taxis etc…

11. Menu

Think about what you want to eat on your wedding day. Consult your caterers regarding what options they have and arrange a menu tasting. A tasting will give you the opportunity to know if you like the menu or not.

12. Cake

Whilst we’re on the topic of food, now could be a good time to think about your cake.

13. Rings

You and your husband can go and choose your wedding rings together, or you can leave it as a surprise. Just remember to get them ready on the morning of the Big Day!

14. Styling

Organise who you want to do the bride’s and bridesmaids’ hair and makeup. It is always a good idea to organise a makeup and hair trial to work out timings and make sure you and your bridesmaids are happy.

15. Seating

Often the hardest part for couples is deciding where to seat their guests at the ceremony and banquet. Think about who would like to sit with who and whether or not you’d like a top table.

16. Vows

The time has come to write your all-important vows if you have chosen to create your own. Make them personal and rehearse them so you are ready for your big moment.

1. Is the date I want to get married available?

Venues can get booked up very far in advance, especially on Fridays or weekends, and if you have a specific date in mind (a date that is special for you and your partner, perhaps) then the first question to ask your venue is whether or not this date is available for your special day.

2. Can I have my ceremony, banquet and reception here?

Using the same place for both the wedding ceremony and reception will not only save you money, but it will also be extremely convenient for you and your guests – you won’t have to think about transportation from location to location.

3. Can I accommodate my guests here?

The next thing to ask is whether or not your guests will be able to stay at the venue. This is important when considering logistics for your wedding.

4. Are there specific caterers here which you use?

Wedding venues occasionally work with their own caterers so you can ask to see a menu proposal to make sure that you’re happy with the catering options at the venue. Alternatively, you could ask to choose your own caterers for the big day.

5. Can we taste the menu beforehand?

You may want to make sure you like the food they will serve and are happy with the quality of it before your special day.

6. What is the time-frame in which we can have the venue for?

Some venues have limits on how long you can have the wedding and reception for, so it is important to check if there is a certain finishing time they abide by so you can know how long to hire a DJ or other entertainment for, for example.

7. Are there any other events occurring on the same day?

It’s always favourable if yours is the only event at the venue on the day, but it is a common occurrence to have more than one event on the same day – still, don’t let this put you off, the venue will ensure the day is your own no matter what other circumstances occur!

8. How many guests can the ceremony and banquet room accommodate?

Often you will have less guests for your ceremony and wedding meal, then more for the evening. However if you plan to have many guests for the ceremony and meal you must ensure that they can all be accommodated.

9. Is there disabled guest access?

Another question to consider is whether or not all your guests will have easy access to the venue – do they have accessible entrances for guests in wheelchairs, for example?

10. Can I hold some parts of my wedding outdoors?

If you are celebrating it in a country such as Spain with a good climate all year round, the weather is likely to be nice. Therefore it could be worth asking if there is outdoor space you can use to make the most of the weather.

11. Do you have wedding packages?

Wedding packages are always advantageous and can save you money. So, it is a good idea to ask the question of if they have packages and what is included in them.

12. Can I see a room layout?

A room layout will help you to plan what you can fit in the space and where you can seat your guests.

13. Are there limits to what decorations I use?

Occasionally venues put certain limits in place regarding decorations. For example some may not allow the use of lit candles due to fire hazards.

14. Do you provide all the utensils, tables and chairs for the banquet?

Knowing this in advance is important so you can organise table, chair and utensil rent if the venue doesn’t provide their own.

15. When can we start the set-up?

You should ensure that your wedding venue can accommodate the entertainment you wish to have at your reception. This could be a live band or DJ, and ask what time they can set up.

Most venues will be permitted to sell alcohol, however sometimes you may need to provide your own.

18. Is there a car park?

It is a good idea to check out if there is space for parking, as many guests will wish to arrive in their own cars.

19. What is your cancellation policy?

You should check out the venue’s cancellation policy. This will be of use in the event that something changes after you book your wedding venue, and you need to either change the venue or reschedule.

A To-Do list for the wedding day in Spain is so important to keep organised so that your day can go exactly to plan, with no hiccups! It is a good idea to make this to-do list in advance and try to get some things done a few days before the wedding. You can share this to-do list with other people, such as bridesmaids and groomsmen so that you have people to help you. It is important that you have a list of all the vendors that you are using for your Spanish wedding. Vendors will likely include florists, venue manager, photographer (and videographer if you opted to have one), entertainers (e.g. DJ), transportation, catering staff and wedding ceremony officiator. Put their contact details next to them so you can call them on the day to make sure they’re ready. If you’re getting married in Spain and don’t speak Spanish, it is important that you have a communication plan, for example someone to help you translate, or simply ensure that your vendors can understand your language.

The rings

The most memorable and important part of the ceremony is the exchanging of rings. They are a symbol of your eternal partnership – don’t forget them!

Weather forecast

Although Spain boasts predominantly good weather all year round, perhaps consider checking the weather forecast for your big day. This means that you can be prepared in the unlikely case that it rains.

Have the timeline for your wedding day

The timeline for your big day is very important so you know what’s happening when. If you are having a wedding coordinator make sure he/she has a copy. Also make sure that you, your partner, bridesmaids, and groomsmen know the timeline so you can all be ready. The wedding coordinator will ensure that your guests are in the right place at the right time.

Plan how long your bridal party needs to get ready

Having an idea of how long it will take everyone to get ready is important to ensure that the ceremony will not be delayed. On your wedding day it is important that you ensure that your guests know that you appreciate them coming. A nice touch is to provide a small welcome gift for your guests. You can leave this either in their accommodation rooms, or on the banquet table at their seats. If you’re getting married in Spain, it is likely that some of your guests will have travelled. Therefore a nice idea for a welcome gift could simply be useful information about tourist activities in the area, with a Spanish themed souvenir.

Natalia and Alberto’s wedding in Marbella

Natalia and Alberto, a Russian-Spanish couple, contacted us a few months ago in order to plan their wedding in Marbella. We got to work, and the result couldn’t have been more perfect. In this article, we’ll give you all the details and share a few of the most special photographs from the big day.

The outdoor ceremony took place in a spectacular hotel in Marbella. The couple got ready in their separate rooms with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, cherishing the special moments before the couple said “Yes, I do”. Natalia wore an amazing princess dress with suspenders and pronounced cleavage, and a flattering makeup look with red lips as the main feature. In fact, red was the main colour of the wedding: the bridesmaids wore pretty red dresses, and the groomsmen wore red ties. Meanwhile, Alberto wore an elegant blue suit with a white shirt. They were a picture of elegance!

The ceremony was flooded with white, with a beautiful altar decorated with flowers and a large carpet in the hallway. After getting married, both the couple and the guests threw white balloons in the air, which made for some fantastic photographs.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed an outdoor wedding banquet, thanks to the ideal weather conditions in this exclusive region of Andalucia. So that she could dance easily, Natalia changed into a short and very comfortable dress…now she was ready to enjoy the whole night!

Asturias is a beautiful region located in the North-West of Spain, and it is famous for its beautiful mountains and religious sites, as well as its rocky coastline. The landscape is very green and unspoilt, and the picturesque features of this region make it perfect for a stunning wedding. The landscape

So as briefly mentioned, one of the most important reasons why Asturias is a fabulous location for a wedding is its breathtaking landscapes. Indeed, it is home to the Picos Europa Mountains, which can provide a wonderful backdrop for your wedding photographs. The mountains are a National Park, filled with nature and characterised with gorges and canyons as well as the mountains. This national park is huge, covering approximately 64000 hectares!

The coastline

As well as mountains, Asturias is also located on the coast, so it is also a great location if you are sea lovers. The eastern coast is home to Llanes, the largest of the resorts in Asturias which has around 50 km of sandy beaches and it is becoming a very popular place!
